Classic Vanilla Cake Recipe

Ingredients
1 cup (230 g) unsalted butter, softened
1 ½ cups (300 g) sugar
4 large eggs (room temperature)
2 ½ cups (315 g) all-purpose flour
2 ½ tsp baking powder
½ tsp salt
1 cup (240 ml) milk (room temperature)
2 tsp pure vanilla extract

Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 8-inch (20 cm) round cake pans.
2. Cream butter and sugar: In a large bowl, beat butter and sugar together until light and fluffy (about 2–3 minutes).
3. Add eggs: Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla extract.
4. Mix dry ingredients: In another bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, and salt.
5. Combine: Add dry ingredients to the butter mixture alternately with milk, starting and ending with the flour mixture. Mix just until smooth.
6. Bake: Divide batter evenly between pans. Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
7. Cool: Let cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then remove and cool completely on a wire rack.
Optional Vanilla Buttercream Frosting
Ingredients:
1 cup (230 g) butter, softened
3–4 cups (360–480 g) powdered sugar
2–3 tbsp milk or cream
1 ½ tsp vanilla extract
Instructions:
1. Beat butter until creamy.
2. Gradually add powdered sugar, 1 cup at a time.
3. Add milk and vanilla, then beat until fluffy.
4. Spread over cooled cake layers.
