German Butter Spritz Cookies
Ingredients
250 g (1 cup + 2 tbsp) unsalted butter, softened
150 g (3/4 cup) granulated sugar
1 packet vanilla sugar (or 1 tsp vanilla extract)
1 large egg
350 g (2 3/4 cups) all-purpose flour
1 pinch salt
Optional for decoration:
Melted chocolate
Sprinkles

Instructions
Preheat oven
Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F). Line baking trays with parchment paper.
Cream butter and sugar
In a large bowl, beat the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
Add egg and vanilla
Mix in the egg and vanilla until smooth.
Add dry ingredients
Add flour and salt. Mix until a soft dough forms.
Shape cookies
Fill dough into a cookie press or piping bag with a star tip.
Pipe shapes (lines, S-shapes, circles) onto the baking tray.
Bake
Bake for 10–12 minutes, until edges are lightly golden.
Cool
Let cookies cool completely on a rack.
Optional decoration
Dip ends in melted chocolate and let set.
Tips
Butter must be soft, not melted.
Dough should be soft but not sticky.
If dough is too firm, let it warm slightly.
