Ultimate Chocolate Layer Cake Recipe
Ingredients
For the Chocolate Cake:
1¾ cups (220g) all-purpose flour
¾ cup (75g) unsweetened cocoa powder
2 cups (400g) sugar
1½ tsp baking soda
1½ tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
2 large eggs
1 cup (240ml) milk
½ cup (120ml) vegetable oil
2 tsp vanilla extract
1 cup (240ml) hot water or hot coffee
For the Chocolate Cream Filling:
2 cups (480ml) heavy cream
300g dark chocolate, chopped
2 tbsp butter
For the Chocolate Ganache (shiny top):
200g dark chocolate
1 cup (240ml) heavy cream
1 tbsp butter

Instructions
1. Make the Cake Layers
1. Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F).
2. Grease and line two 20cm (8-inch) square or round pans.
3. In a large bowl, mix flour, cocoa, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
4. Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla. Beat until smooth.
5. Stir in hot water or coffee last. Batter will be thin.
6. Pour into pans and bake 30–35 minutes.
7. Cool completely, then slice each cake into 2 layers (total 4 layers).
2. Make the Chocolate Cream Filling
1. Heat cream until hot (not boiling).
2. Pour over chopped chocolate and butter.
3. Let sit 2 minutes, then stir until smooth.
4. Place in fridge 20–30 minutes to thicken.
3. Make the Shiny Chocolate Ganache
1. Heat cream until steaming.
2. Pour over chocolate and butter.
3. Stir until smooth and glossy.
4. Let cool slightly.
4. Assemble the Cake
1. Place the first cake layer on a plate.
2. Spread a thick layer of chocolate cream filling.
3. Repeat for all layers.
4. Pour the ganache over the top and let it drip down smoothly.
5. Decorate with chocolate curls.
