Decadent chocolate cake

Ingredients

1. Cake:
1. 2 1/4 cups (285g) all-purpose flour
  2. 1 1/2 cups (180g) granulated sugar
  3. 2 teaspoons baking powder
  4. 1 teaspoon salt
  5. 1/2 cup (115g) unsweetened cocoa powder
  6. 1/2 cup (120ml) whole milk, at room temperature
  7. 2 large eggs, at room temperature
  8. 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
2. Chocolate Frosting:
1. 1 cup (200g) unsalted butter, softened
  2. 2 cups (400g) confectioners’ sugar
  3. 1/2 cup (120g) unsweetened cocoa powder
  4. 2 tablespoons milk or heavy cream
  5. 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

1. Preheat: Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C). Grease two 9-inch (23cm) round cake pans.

2. Mix dry ingredients: Whisk flour, sugar, baking powder and salt.

3. Mix wet ingredients: Whisk cocoa powder, milk, eggs and vanilla extract.

4. Combine: Add wet ingredients to dry ingredients; mix until smooth.

5. Divide batter: Pour into prepared pans.

6. Bake: 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.

7. Cool: Let cool in pans 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.

8. Prepare frosting: Beat butter, confectioners’ sugar, cocoa powder and milk until smooth.

9. Assemble: Place one cake layer on a serving plate; spread frosting. Top with second layer.
