Chocolate Buttermilk Cake

Chocolate Buttermilk Cake recipe

Ingredients

1. Cake:
2. 2 1/4 cups (285g) all-purpose flour
3. 1 1/2 cups (180g) granulated sugar
4. 2 teaspoons baking powder
5. 1 teaspoon salt
6. 1/2 cup (115g) unsweetened cocoa powder
7. 1 cup (235ml) buttermilk
8. 2 large eggs
9. 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
10. Chocolate Frosting:
11. 1 cup (200g) unsalted butter, softened
12. 2 cups (400g) confectionersโ€™ sugar
13. 1/2 cup (115g) unsweetened cocoa powder
14. 2 tablespoons milk or heavy cream

Instructions

1. Preheat: Oven to 350ยฐF (180ยฐC). Grease two 9-inch (23cm) round cake pans.
2. Mix dry ingredients: Flour, sugar, baking powder and salt.
3. Combine wet ingredients: Buttermilk, eggs and vanilla extract.
4. Combine chocolate and dry ingredients: Add cocoa powder to dry ingredients.
5. Combine wet and dry ingredients: Mix until smooth.
6. Divide batter: Evenly between prepared pans.
7. Bake: 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
8. Cool: In pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
9. Make frosting: Beat butter, confectionersโ€™ sugar, cocoa powder and milk until smooth.
10. Assemble: Spread frosting on one cake layer, then top with second layer.
