ORANGE ICE CREAM
Ingredients:
4 oranges (you’ll need about 1 cup orange juice)
1 teaspoon orange zest (optional, for a more intense flavor)
1 cup of heavy cream (whipping cream)
1 cup of milk
3/4 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
a pinch of salt
Preparation:
- Juice the oranges to obtain about 1 cup of fresh orange juice. If you want a more intense flavor, you can grate the peel of an orange and reserve the zest.
- In a large bowl, mix the orange juice, heavy cream, milk, sugar, vanilla extract and pinch of salt. If you are using orange zest, add that at this point as well.
- Stir the mixture well until the sugar is completely dissolved. You can use a hand mixer or whisk to make sure everything is well mixed.
- Chill the mixture in the refrigerator for at least 1-2 hours, or until very cold. This will help the ice cream cool faster in the machine and have a smoother texture.
- Once the mixture is cold, pour it into your ice cream maker and follow the manufacturer’s instructions to make the ice cream. If you don’t have an ice cream maker, you can pour the mixture into a freezer-safe container and stir every 30-45 minutes for about 3-4 hours to prevent ice crystals from forming and achieve a creamier texture.
- Once the ice cream is ready, you can enjoy it immediately for a softer texture, or you can transfer it to a freezer-safe container and let it sit for a few hours to reach a firmer consistency.
- Serve the homemade orange ice cream in cones or cups and enjoy!
