Homemade donuts

Homemade donuts are delicious and versatile as they can be customized with different glazes and toppings.  Preparing them at home allows you to control the ingredients and enjoy their freshness.  In addition, the preparation process can be fun and rewarding to share with the family.

Ingredients:

• 2 ¼ cups (280 g) wheat flour

• ½ cup (100 g) of sugar

• 2 teaspoons baking powder

• ½ teaspoon salt

• ½ cup (120 ml) of milk

• 2 eggs

• ¼ cup (60 g) melted butter

• 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

To fry:

• Vegetable oil (such as canola or sunflower)

Making homemade donuts can be fun and delicious.  Make sure you have all the ingredients and utensils ready before you begin so that the process is smooth and successful.

Preparation:

1. In a large bowl, mix the flour, sugar, baking powder and salt.

2. In another bowl, beat the eggs and then add the milk, melted butter and vanilla extract.  Mix well.

3. Add the liquid mixture to the flour mixture and stir until all ingredients are well combined and a soft dough forms.

4. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for a few minutes until smooth and elastic.

5. Place the dough back in the bowl, cover with a clean cloth, and let it rest in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until the dough has doubled in size.

6. After the resting time, roll out the dough on a floured surface until it is approximately 1cm thick.  Use a donut cutter to cut out the donut shapes.  You can also use a round cutter and then make a hole in the center with a smaller cutter.

7. Place the donuts on a floured tray and let them rest for about 15-20 minutes while you heat the oil.

8. In a large pot, heat enough vegetable oil to a temperature of 175-180°C (350-360°F).

9. Carefully place the donuts into the hot oil using a spatula or slotted spoon.  Fry the donuts for about 2-3 minutes on each side, or until they are golden brown and cooked through.

10. Remove the fried donuts and place them on absorbent paper to remove excess oil.

11. Optional: After cooling slightly, you can glaze the donuts with powdered sugar, chocolate glaze, or any other topping you desire.

12. Enjoy your delicious homemade donuts!

Remember that working with hot oil can be dangerous, so be very careful when frying donuts.  I hope you enjoy your homemade donuts!
